The late Umeo Yamamoto His wife says that this work was completed in his twenties.

It was around this time that the kiln was put into the kiln over and over again in order to get good cinnabar. He remembered that he had been drinking a lot because it didn't go well.

The scenery that contains stones that are larger than silica stones is nice, and the slight inclination is attractive, but the well-made tea pool is also a feature.

This kind of playful use of clay is one of Mr. Umeo's strengths, but when asked by his son, he jokingly lamented that it was painful to hit the hands of the potter's wheel in the winter with rocks.

The small holes created by exploding clay, the rustic feel of the mixture of silica stones, and the gradation of young cinnabar create a moderate softness.

  • About Shokeizan-yaki

Shokeizan Kiln is said to have been founded as far back as the Bunsei Era. In Shimane Prefecture, the kiln had a 14-stage climbing kiln at the end of a mountain road in the Kohama district of Yunotsu Town, and was one of the oldest Iwami ware kilns.
